Retinal nerve fiber layer defect in a patient with healthy neuroretinal rim.

چکیده
Ophthalmoscopic scrutiny of the nerve fiber layer was first advocated by Hoyt, over 30 years ago. In the following years, the importance of localized defects of the retinal nerve fiber layer (NFL) for the diagnosis of glaucoma has been demonstrated in many studies. The evaluation of the NFL, though relatively difficult and subjective, has become routine in the common ophthalmic examination. We present a case of an isolated NFL defect with different possible etiologies.

Comprehensive Three-Dimensional Analysis of the Neuroretinal Rim in Glaucoma Using High-Density Spectral-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography Volume Scans
Purpose To describe spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) methods for quantifying neuroretinal rim tissue in glaucoma and to compare these methods to the traditional retinal nerve fiber layer thickness diagnostic parameter. Methods Neuroretinal rim parameters derived from three-dimensional (3D) volume scans were compared with the two-dimensional (2D) Spectralis retinal nerve fibe...
متن کاملParapapillary retinal vessel diameter in normal and glaucoma eyes. II. Correlations.
The juxtapapillary diameters of the superior temporal and inferior temporal retinal artery and vein have been shown to be significantly smaller in glaucomatous eyes than in normal eyes. They had been measured in 473 eyes of 281 patients with chronic primary open-angle glaucoma and in 275 eyes of 173 normal subjects. In the current study the vessel diameters were correlated with intra- and parap...
متن کاملOphthalmoscopic appearance of the normal optic nerve head in rhesus monkeys.
PURPOSE To evaluate the ophthalmoscopic appearance of the normal optic disc, parapapillary region, and retinal nerve fiber layer in rhesus monkeys. METHODS Color stereo fundus photographs of 17 normal eyes of 17 rhesus monkeys aged between 13 and 23 years were morphometrically evaluated. RESULTS The neuroretinal rim was significantly (P: < 0.008) broadest in the inferior disc region followe...
متن کاملA case of superior segmental optic hypoplasia accompanied by a glaucomatous optic neuropathy
This is the first case report of a bilateral superior segmental optic hypoplasia (SSOH) accompanied by a glaucomatous optic neuropathy (GON). A 47-year-old man incidentally diagnosed as having bilateral SSOH, simultaneously disclosed glaucomatous optic disc appearances, including enlargements of the cup of the optic nerve heads and a thinning of the infero-temporal neuroretinal rim with laminar...
متن کاملOptic nerve head topographic measurements and retinal nerve fiber layer thickness in physiologic large cups.
PURPOSE To evaluate the parameters of optic nerve head (ONH) and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) in patients with large cup/disc ratio (CDR) and normal neuroretinal rim configuration who have normal perimetry (physiologic large cups, LC) and to compare these parameters with those of the normal and early glaucoma patients. METHODS Using Heidelberg retinal tomography (HRT) and optical coherenc...
